Dengue Fever

Dengue fever continues to be a serious health problem in the tropics on several continents.

With more than one-third of the world’s population living in areas at risk for transmission, dengue infection is a leading cause of illness and death in the tropics and subtropics. As many as 100 million people are infected yearly. Dengue is caused by any one of four related viruses transmitted by mosquitoes. There are not yet any vaccines to prevent infection with dengue virus (DENV) and the most effective protective measures are those that avoid mosquito bites. When infected, early recognition and prompt supportive treatment can substantially lower the risk of developing severe disease.

Dengue has emerged as a worldwide problem only since the 1950s. Although dengue rarely occurs in the continental United States, it is endemic in Puerto Rico, and in many popular tourist destinations in Latin America and Southeast Asia; periodic outbreaks occur in Samoa and Guam.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of it yet in Liberia. However, neighboring countries such as Guinea and the Ivory Coast have reported incidents of it.

Teenage prostitution on the rise in Liberia, West Africa

What are they talking about? Prostitution has been way up there at the top in most large cities in the world. And Monrovia, Liberia, is no different. Liberian men will pay five hundred to a thousand US dollars for an hour of pleasure with young girls and boys, although most of these men can hardly afford to support their families and homes.

Very young children as I would put it are driving thirty to sixty thousand dollar cars and living a very high-class life with only having to spread their legs or bend over to these stupid men.

With HIV on the rise in Liberia, something needs to be done before it's too late for most of Liberian youth. Oh I almost forgot to mention that HIV vaccine is now possible. Some believe that it will be there very soon, therefore they do not need to stop the sexual habit which is not just giving them HIV, but making them to live a comfortable life money wise. Huh!!!

U. S. Congressman Patrick Kennedy says Taylor will destroy Liberia 'IF HE RETURNS'

If U. S. Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-Rhodes Island) has his way former Liberian President Charles Ghankay Taylor should stay as far away from Liberia as possible. Kennedy, one of the eight U. S. lawmakers to visit Liberia a few days ago told reporters that Taylor is great harm to Liberia.

Taylor is a billionaire and his children will be one of the world's most wealthy in the future. For all scratch cards that are used for making cell calls via Lonestar Wireless, Taylor gets all or most of the money. If he really loves his country he should stay away from the public eye and let the country continue to grow. My people, since about a year ago the crime rate has dropped 57% due to the way Attorney General Christaina Tah has followed legal procedures and tried to cut back on corruption in the justice system.

She still has to get rid of defense counsel Solomon who is a complete crook at the justice system but the law of the country is on it's way to justice for all and not those who can pay off judges and lawyers.

Liberia will rise again my people and become "Petite New York" as it was referred to by most West African Countries just a little over thirty years ago.

Doctor do nothings getting away with murder in Liberia

A most recent investigation uncovered allegations of medical malpractice and irregularities at the ELWA Hospital off the Roberts Field Highway in Liberia. So many die in Liberia daily because most of the doctors there who will not be allowed to take out bed pans are practicing medicine not knowing what most of the medical instruments are made to be used for.

Many patients have complained about the malpractice and poor treatment that they have gotten at the ELWA hospital. Tahat Hospital, which used to be one of the best in Liberia during Tubman and Tolbert era is one of the worse now and lacks competent doctors to treat patients.

Attorney General/Minster of Justice Christiana Tah is working wonders in Liberia

Before Christiana Tah left her teaching job at the Montgomery Law School in Maryland to join the Government of Liberia to help reduce crime Liberia was a living hell of massive violence daily. Armed robbery was a daily thing and murder was on the rise to the max. But now after about almost a year of her being the Attorney General of Liberia, crime has subsided in a great way. One can even walk the streets at night and feel safe.

Congratulation to you Madame Tah for all of the hard work have done for your Country.

Motorbikes and Liberian youth

Why are there so many motor bikes on the streets of Liberia? Some say it's for an easy way to get from one end of town to the other. But my people these kids are killing people or themselves everyday. Why can't the Ministry of Transportation have some rules in place? Why are there are no classes in learning how to ride the damn things and traffic laws and rules before these assholes get on the road with a bike?

These guys are all through the traffic on the side wall overtaking cars, trucks, etc. They do not understand or know the traffic signs and when the people stop all autos at a stop the motorbikes also have to stop.

Ministry of Transportation, it is your fault for all the death and accidents in Liberia that happen daily. You need to educate these people so many can stop dying daily from their negligence. Make them attend some form of class to learn how to ride and where to ride and obey all traffic rules.

Minster of Transportation, you need to do something to stop these deaths.
